Labyrinth of ParadoxThese drawings are intuitive. To intensify the process of drawing without distractions, I booked a silent retreat at a local Monastery while my children were on vacation with their dad the summer of 1998. Meals were provided and I stopped drawing only to eat, sleep and walk around the premises. There were two sounds I remember. The first was in the dinner line-up a tiny nun asking, "How did you get to be so tall?" then answering herself with, "Special recipe." We giggled. The other sound was the wind and how it moved the grasses to lie diagonally in my field of vision from under the big tree by the river. This thrusting is infused in O The Glory of Silent Surprise. Drawing ten hours a day put unanticipated stress on my right shoulder forcing me to use my left hand for relief. Later I added colour with chalk pastel. These are 13" x 20", graphite on paper. Some sold, some were rented and four are in the permanent collection of the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg. |
